Carbon regulates climate, it dissolves in seawater, and it is the main component of all biomass. We use models and observations to reconstruct the global carbon cycle and its connection to climate change of the past. This work combines carbon cycle modeling and detailed geochemical calculations to better quantify past change from indirect proxy measurements. This line of research ultimately aims to inform ongoing ocean acidification and the climate response to anthropogenic CO2 rise.
